Sharmistha Mohanty

Sharmistha Mohanty is the author of two books of poems Extinctions (2022), The Gods Came Afterwards (2019), and three works of prose, Five Movements in Praise (2013), New Life (2005), and Book One (1995). She has also translated a selection of Tagore’s fiction, Broken Nest and Other Stories (2019). She is the founder-editor of the online literature journal Almost Island and the initiator of the Almost Island Dialogues, an annual international writers’ gathering held in New Delhi. She taught the Creative Writing MFA at the City University of Hong Kong from 2009-2016. She held several international fellowships and is a recipient of a Senior Fellowship from the Indian Ministry of Culture.
