Panchanan Mohanty taught at Odisha Educational Service, Berhampur University, University of Hyderabad, GLA University, and is currently Dean, School of Humanities, Nalanda University. He published 34 books, about 165 papers, and participated in more than 350 conferences. He was President, Linguistic Society of India and Dravidian Linguistics Association, Chief Editor of Indian Linguistics, deputy editor of International Journal of Dravidian Linguistics, and is now an editorial board member of The Endangered Languages Yearbook, The Papers of Moscow State University (Oriental Studies), Translation Today, among others. He has discovered two undocumented languages, Walmiki and Malhar, and is a Governing Council member of the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
