Aruna Roy is a socio-political activist and Founder-Member of Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, the National Campaign for Peoples’ Right to Information, and the School for Democracy. After being in the IAS from 1968-1975, she went to Rajasthan to work with the rural poor. Since 1987, she has been living in Devdungri village, Rajsamand District in Rajasthan and working for accessing constitutional rights for the poor. Recipient of several honours including the Ramon Magsaysay Award (2000), she was listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by the TIME Magazine for 2011. She is currently President of the National Federation of Indian Women.
