NS Madhavan is a Malayalam novelist, short story writer, columnist, and former civil servant. In a literary career spanning more than four decades, he has published five collections of short stories, one novel, a book of literary criticism, and a volume of assorted essays. Litanies of Dutch Battery the English translation of his Malayalam novel won the Crossword Prize for the Best Indian Novel in Translation. His story “When Big Trees Fall” about the 1984 events following Indira Gandhi’s assassination, had been made into a Hindi film Kaya Taran.
