Ruchir Joshi

Ruchir Joshi is the author of The Last Jet-Engine Laugh (2000), a novel, and Poriborton! (2011), a book about the 2011 state elections in West Bengal. His latest book, The Great Eastern Hotel (2025), is a work of historical fiction set in Calcutta during World War II.  He has been a columnist for The TelegraphThe HinduThe Economic Times, and other newspapers, and has contributed to GrantaIndia MagazineMan's WorldSeminarE-FluxWittede Witt Review, and The Indian Quarterly. He has also directed documentaries and essay films, including the award-winning Tales from Planet Kolkata (1993).
