Upamanyu Chatterjee is the author of the cult classics English, August: An Indian Story (1988) and The Mammaries of the Welfare State (2000; won the Sahitya Akademi Award). His other books include The Last Burden (1993), Weight Loss (2006), Way to Go (2011; shortlisted for the Hindu Best Fiction Award), Fairy Tales at Fifty (2014), and the novella The Revenge of the Non-vegetarian (2018; shortlisted for the Crossword Jury Award). He was awarded the Order of Officier des Arts et des Lettres (2008) by the French Government for his contribution to literature. The Assassination of Indira Gandhi (2019) is the first volume of his collected stories
