Sonal Mansingh

Sonal Mansingh is a renowned Indian classical dancer who is unique among performing artists of India for her training in and deep knowledge of several Indian dance styles as well as the three classical music traditions of India: Hindustani, Oriya, and Carnatic. She is proficient in several languages and literatures, and she addresses socio-cultural issues through her chosen medium of Naatya-Katha (solo-dance theatre). She is the recipient of several honours and awards including the the Padma Bhushan (1992) and the Padma Vibhushan (2003). She has served as Chairperson of Sangeet Natak Akademi, and is currently a Trustee of Indira Gandhi Centre for the Arts, and a visiting professor at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
