Robert Stephens is an architect, visual artist, and a rare-book collector based in Mumbai, where he is a Principal at RMA Architects. Since 2007 he has been documenting urban India from 10,000 feet above sea level, in black and white as well as colour photography. In 2018 he founded Urbs Indis, an urban aerial photography studio and archival library. His first exhibition “Mumbai Articles” (2014) was launched at his gallery, ARTISANS’ in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. Subsequent exhibitions include “Madras Transit” (2015) at Amethyst, Chennai, “Mumbai North” (2016), “Mumbai Shadows” (2017), and “Ahmedabad Walls” (2018). His work has featured in the Guardian, Scroll.in, DOMUS.
