Raheel Dhattiwala has master’s and doctoral degrees in Sociology from the University of Oxford. She is currently Research Associate with the European Research Council-funded Group Violence project at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. Her first book Keeping the Peace: Spatial Differences in Hindu-Muslim Violence in Gujarat in 2002 (2019) explains the mechanisms of peacekeeping during extreme violence. She has previously published in Politics & Society, Qualitative Sociology, Contemporary South Asia, and Economic & Political Weekly. She worked as a senior reporter with the Times of India in Ahmedabad (2001- 2007) and continues to engage with the media as an expert on riots, pogroms, and politics
