Avani Rai has worked as a cameraperson on a number of short films. Uski Baarish (2012) was premiered at Clermont-Ferrand, TIFF etc. Her documentary on her father Raghu Rai: An Unframed Portrait (2017) captures the history of India of the past 50 years, which she experienced through his images. The film is co-produced by ARTE FRANCE, IDFA BERTHA FUND and was premiered at IDFA (2017) and has travelled to DocPoint (Finland, Estonia), Doc Aviv (Tel Aviv), Docs Against Gravity (Poland), Oslo (Norway), TRT documentary days (Turkey), Doc Edge (New Zealand), and Doc Fest (Germany). She has contributed to the Sunday Guardian, Scroll, The Wire as a photographer.
