Ali Khan Mahmudabad

Ali Khan Mahmudabad currently teaches at Ashoka University and is affiliated to the departments of Political Science and History. He attended universities in Syria and the USA, and obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge. His interests have focused on matters of religious identity, democracy, culture and politics of both South Asia and West Asia (the MENA region). He writes regularly for various publications in English and Urdu and also conducts research in a number of languages. He is the author of Poetry of Belonging (2019), which explores the north-Indian Muslim identity through poetry at a time when the Indian nation state did not exist.
