Jo Chopra McGowan
Jo Chopra McGowan is the founder and director of Latika, a 30-year-old non-profit in Dehradun, which works with disabled children and their families. A writer with a regular column in Commonweal, her work has also appeared in The Guardian, Newsweek, US Catholic, Times of India, Indian Express, The Hindu, and other major dailies. She is an avid reader, walker, and is also a convicted criminal who has spent nine weeks in jail for political offenses. Fluent in Hindi, she has lived in India since 1981. Moy Moy’s Circle: A True Story of Love, Disability and The World We Can Build Together (2025) is about her and her organization.
