Biography

Rita Kothari

Rita Kothari is a practitioner and theorist of translation. She is the author of The Burden of Refuge: Partition, Sindh, Gujarat (2007), Memories and Movements: Borders and Communities in Banni, Kutch (2013), Translating India: The Cultural Politics of English (2003). She is also the co-editor of Chutnefying English: The Phenomenon of HInglish (2011) and Decentring Translation Studies: India and Beyond (2009). She has translated into English Gujarat’s first Dalit novel Angaliyat (rev. 2013), and collections of short stories and poetry from Gujarati and Sindhi. She 
teaches Humanities at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar and is the recipient of several fellowships and
awards.
