Katharina Kakar, born in Germany in 1967, was trained in Comparative Religion and Anthropology at the Free University in Berlin, before she turned to writing and art. She took her Ph.D. in 2001. She lived and studied in Germany and the United States, before settling in Goa in 2003 with her husband, writer and psychoanalyst Sudhir Kakar. In Goa, she founded the NGO Tara Trust, where she relentlessly works to empower marginalized children through art and creative engagement. In her artworks she plays with different materials to create new visual bodies that address the changing global landscape of identities.
